Skilled Worker Class - Based on Skills

A Skilled Worker Class - Based on skills applicant for immigration to Canada is anyone who is not eligible for either the family class or refugee categories. In order to apply for a Skilled Worker Class Immigrant , you must be 19 years of age or older.

Beginning September 1, 2006 Immigration Canada has introduced a new Simplified Application Process for Federal Skilled Worker Class - Based on Skills.

Federal Skilled Worker Class - Based on Skills, applicants are only required to provide the modified application form IMM 0008SW and processing fees at the time of application. Supporting documents will need to be provided only when the visa office is ready to assess the application.

You  may use the Simplified Application Process if:

  • you meet the selection criteria of this class

  • you do not have arranged employment;

  • you do not currently have a temporary resident status in Canada as a worker or student;

  • You do not currently have in process another application for permanent residence under the   Economic Class;

  • you are not a Provincial Nominee;

  • you have not been selected by Quebec.

  • you are not applying through the Canadian visa office in Buffalo.

The Simplified Application Process does not apply if you:

  • are a provincial nominee; or

  • have been selected by Quebec; or

  • are eligible for points for arranged employment (see Factor 5); or

  • have a legal temporary resident status in Canada as a worker or a student and are submitting your application at the Canadian visa office in Buffalo; or

  • have a legal status in the United States and are submitting your application through the Canadian visa office in Buffalo.

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE REQUIREMENTS  FOR A SKILLED WORKER APPLICANT- BASED ON SKILLS.

Be assessed according to the selection criteria (based on points system); 

Have at least one year of work experience within the past 10 years in a management occupation or in an occupation normally requiring university, college or technical training as set out under Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B of the  National Occupational Classification  (NOC)

Your occupation must be listed on the National Occupational Classification (NOC). in order to qualify to immigrate to Canada, unless you have approved Arranged Employment by Human Resources Canada Center.

Have enough money to support yourself and all your dependants to be able to settle in Canada

To qualify you must score a minimum of 67 points out of 100.

Diploma, trade certificate or apprenticeship" refers to a post-secondary educational credential other than a university educational credential.

Applicants are rated on the ability to speak, listen, read or write Canada's two official languages.

Applies to either principal applicant or accompanying spouse or common-law partner. A common-law partner is a person of the opposite or same sex with whom you are in a conjugal relationship and who is currently cohabiting with you and has done so for at least one year.

NOTE: To be considered under the Independent Skilled Worker category, applicants must score a minimum of 67.
